WHAT IS YOGA THERAPY?

Yoga Therapy is a holistic treatment that utilises yoga and mindfulness teaching and practices, informed by neuroscience, to treat the individual wellbeing needs of the client.  It can help to treat and improve wellbeing in many conditions, including but not limited to stress, anxiety, depressions, insomnia, back pain, chronic pain, IBS, premenstrual syndrome and menopausal symptoms, fatigue, cancer-related symptoms and neurodegenerative conditions.

Although the treatment utilises yoga teachings and practices it is very different from a regular yoga class.  The sessions are designed to meet the needs of the client, working with the client through defined goals to help manage or reduce their symptoms.  Previous experience of yoga or body/mind practices is not required.

WHAT IS MINDFULNESS?

Jon Kabat-Zinn, one of the founders of modern-day mindfulness describes the practice as ‘Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally’. Mindfulness is the deliberate act of focusing on the present moment, noticing where we are in that moment. As we sit in the here and now there is no stress. In the present moment, there is nothing to worry about.

As we practice mindfulness together, you may experience some of the following benefits:

- Deep relaxation
- An opportunity to recharge and reset for the challenges ahead
- A rest from ruminative thinking
- Reduction in stress and an improved ability to manage stress
- Increased ability to focus and improved concentration
- Improved emotion regulation and a reduction in impulsiveness
- Mindfulness can increase our capacity to overcome challenges. Giving us resources that we can use when we feel anxious or overwhelmed
